If you’re anything like me, you’ll have noticed that recently you’ve been waking up more and more sore. Your joints don’t quite want to move the way they normally do and your back is likely killing you when you get up in the morning. To be perfectly honest, I’ve been spending some extra time in bed each morning just stretching and trying to build up the motivation to get out of bed because I know it’s going to hurt. It really is a very upsetting situation when you know you need to get up to feed your pet or use the bathroom but at the same time you know all it will do is cause you pain.

If this sounds like what you’ve been going through lately, you certainly aren’t alone. There may be a multitude of reasons for this, though, so unfortunately we can’t offer you a quick fix. It may be something as simple as you needing a new pillow or it may be something serious that has started to develop in your bones and joints. Only a doctor can tell, so get into your primary care doctor and let them know what’s going on.

If you generally wake up with a bit of soreness but notice that it has been getting worse lately, you may not need to be alarmed. Many people with chronic pain conditions such as arthritis and fibromyalgia say that their symptoms seem to get worse in the winter. Once that temperature goes down, their pain levels go up and there doesn’t seem to be anything to combat this fact. You can turn the heat on, but obviously no one wants to sweat in their sleep so make sure that you find a temperature that is comfortable for you. This can also reduce your tossing and turning which may be another contributing factor to your pain when you wake up in the morning.
